No. The department of the interior decides whether you need to take athe exam depending on the country you emigrated from and what your goals in Austria are. Citizens of EU/EAA countries, Switzerland, and some other countries, such as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Sweden, don’t need to take a German exam to stay in Austria. However, you can obviously choose to take an exam, e.g., for work. To enroll in the university, you will need to demonstrate that you have C1 German skills. Learn more in the FAQ section on exams.
